General Roles for Refugees:
If you are a refugee wanting to volunteer the following organisations may have a suitable role. The organisations below provide transport expenses unless stated otherwise. For more information click on the link or come to one of the Volunteer Centre’s drop in sessions on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
This West Yorkshire based charity provides housing for refugees and asylum seekers who find themselves destitute.
Ark Charity Shop
The Ark Charity Shop is a small independent charity shop. They offer low costs goods and raise money through sales to give grants to local schools, clubs, charities, and other non-for-profit organisations within the Girlington, Heaton and Manningham areas. Expenses not paid.
Bradford Environmental Education Service runs practical conservation days on a range of outdoor sites around Bradford. They provide training in conservation skills.
Horton Community Farm
People of all backgrounds and abilities are welcome to help out at the community allotment run by the farm.
St Oswald’s West End Centre
The centre welcomes refugees as volunteers but unfortunately cannot pay travel expenses.
St Vincent’s Community Support Projects
Help with sorting stock for the charity shop.
Specialist Roles for Refugees:
Some organisations welcome volunteers with specialist skills such as accountancy, teaching or interpreting. You will need to have a good level of English and these roles will require a criminal record check (DBS) and references so volunteering could take a bit longer but click on the link to find out more.
